Homemade Butter & Aztec Toes

Aztec toes!! How fun are these? I bet you're wondering, exactly how long does it take to do something like this? And how? It took me about an hour, from a lazy afternoon while watching a movie. If you haven't used this toothpick technique, it may take a little bit longer to practice :)

Just dab a little of each color on a disposable plate, these will be your design colors (I chose mint/pink/white/black). Paint a base color, then get to work! Make the stripes first, then fill in colors and add Aztec design...I would definitely love to try a red and yellow combo next time!

Homemade Butter!! Organic butter is practically non-existent here where I live, so out of curiosity I googled how to make homemade butter. So, SO easy. If you have a mixer and parchment paper, you're set! HERE is the original link I used, but since I love pictures...

Pour heavy whipping cream in.

Start mixing on medium speed, it will start to fluff nicely like whipped butter (wish I had a picture of that!). Then when the buttermilk separates from the butter (and that WILL be messy) it will pool from the bottom and butter will stick to the mixer hand. Pour the buttermilk into a jar and save it for baking!

I put the butter in a colander, website just says a bowl but I found this easier, and pour ice water over it to wash away the leftover buttermilk sticking to it. It says this cleans it for storing. When water is clear, you can stick it on parchment paper and shape as desired!

Directions say you can count on half of the whipping cream to turn into butter, and half buttermilk. I found this to be true.

And wa-la! Butter! I used a pint of organic heavy whipping cream, and it made approximately 2 sticks. Check out the fun additives you can use to flavor your butter on that website! I salt while using it with sea salt.

Updating in pictures-which I've been doing on instagram anyways while taking a break from Facebook. Find me there! I'm sharing my style on there daily :D

Addie graduated kindergarten! Such a proud day for us!

We went to Devil's Den for Memorial Day...saw cousins we don't see too often!

Beautiful day for it.

I ran for the first time since my first running injury, I hurt my IT band on the 10k. Not a fun injury, totally affects how you walk and takes weeks to heal. I went to Rush Running in Bentonville upon recommendation from several friends, they said they can help fit my feet into shoes that will reduce injuries. Such a cool place, the girl helping me gave me a pair of new balances to run on a treadmill in, which was video'd for 10 seconds and recorded my running style from the calves down. She showed it to me right afterwards on the screen, and showed me how I have over pronation (I hit on the inside of my left foot in my stride, which made sense since my left knee was hurt). I ended up buying these beautiful babies by Mizuno, which have thicker inner soles to prevent my foot from landing like it does. She said its just how you're built at the joints and bones that causes it, nothing you can change except for surgery, which would be dramatic. 70% of people have this, which is pretty normal.

We captured a peahen! She was just walking around our driveway when we first saw her. Doug was heading out to work and told me to try and catch her for his sister who has a farm, she's been wanting one forever. So, like a dummy, I'm running rough the woods with a blanket after this bird who was way faster than me. Not happening. Then the storms rolled through and we didn't see her (OK tornado producing super cells). She showed back up e next day and we trailed seed and bread into our garage, playing peacock mating calls. It worked! She walked in eating the bread and Doug hit the garage door (each of us were hiding in the woods with a clicker, Bahah). So awesome...

KALE MEATLOAF was amazing, I didn't add the bread, but instead some breadcrumbs, and doubled the mixture with ground pork for flavor. I added carrots, onion, and onion/garlic powder. I love that you can make this an organic meal ready for the freezer!

And these babies, which were soooo yummy and crispy! Spicy sweet potato wedges. I used coconut oil instead, but did everything else as recipe follows. Try them, really!

I've slaved away on the house this week, doing some serious yard work and staining/painting on the stairs, deck, and trim. I still have our room to repaint...I think I've been finding everything else I can do besides that. I'm so clumsy and rough, that I fear for my furniture and carpet :/

That's it. Peacelove.
